Rang Mahal ChambaRang Mahal Chamba :: Rang Mahal Chambaor Painted Palace Is Located In Surana Mohalla In Chamba. The Palace Is One Of The Largest Monuments In Chamba And Most Famous Because Of The Intricate Paintings Depicting The Life Of Lord Krishna All Around It Done In The Traditional Pahari Or Hill Style Of Punjab. The Architecture Of The Palace Has Reflections Of Both The Mughal And British Style. The Foundation Was Laid By Raja Umed Singh In The 1800s And Added To By Subsequent Rajas Like Jit Singh And Charat Singh. In Fact, The Brick Structure Was Actually Built By Raja Sri Singh In 1860. Rang Mahal Was A Residence For The Royal Family And Also As A Granary And Treasury. As You Move Around Inside The Palace You Will See The Difference In The Way The Western Side Is Constructed As Compared To The Rest Of The Palace. The Palace Was Converted Into A Womens Residence For Some Years But Now Is The Location Of The Himachal Emporium. Many Of The Wall Paintings Have Been Taken Down And Are Displayed In Delhi And The Bhuri Singh Museum. Some Of The Royal Rooms Are Now Workshops For Shoemakers, Embroiderers And Other Local Craftsmen And In Addition To Watching Them At Work You Can Also Buy Them At Fair Prices. Look Out For The Rumals-handkerchief-like Pieces Of Cloth Which Are Finely Embroidered And Make Beautiful Gifts.
